ANGELS HAVEN HORSE RESCUE
OUR MISSION
Sadly, all horses will never find a home, or peace in this life. Our organization is devoted to rescuing, rehabilitating and training horses that have never been given a chance. Our goal is to help a horse that, without intervention will die, or worse, be slaughtered for meat. We need to place these horses in a loving home where they can live a long life and be productive. Everyday, young horses or horses in their prime are starved to death, abused or sent to slaughter and sold for meat. Our general mission is to rescue (in some cases, purchase) adoptable horses from neglectful and abusive homes. These unwanted horses need to be placed in good living conditions and ultimately a loving home where they will have an opportunity to lead a much better life. We can help provide them with this life they deserve with some love, TLC and a genuine interest in their future well-being. Angels Haven will provide them with what they deserve - TO LIVE A HEALTHY AND HAPPY LIFE!
OUR FIRST RESCUE
We have already started based on an emergency need and would like to share Sugar and Snickers story with you. Earlier than expected, our mission began on February 26, 2006 with a Mare and her Foal. They are presently at the barn settling in. They came from deplorable conditions and an inhumane situation where their stalls weren’t kept clean and they were extremely neglected. Sugar came to us with overgrown feet, which the farrier has started working on. Some of the growth has been removed but will not properly be trimmed or examined until she can be tranquilized. Sugar needs to be laid down by a vet as she is in too much pain to stand on her feet long enough for the farrier to trim the feet thoroughly. The vet determined that her Snickers is not getting enough food from his mom to do much more than survive. After much struggle and determination on the part of Angels Haven initial participants, we have managed to get him to start eating oatmeal consistency through foal-lac pellets. He wanted nothing to do with a bottle but seems to like gumming the mash pretty well. Once he figured out it was food (and that kicking the bucket holder was part of the fun) he began to eat in earnest. His mother is moving around slightly more than in days past but we will unfortunately not know the extent of her foot damage until a thorough trim and exam is done. Sugar has been very sweet and tolerant of us so far, especially considering she's been locked in a stall for a year with nearly no human interaction. There is most likely no hope for her hair and the mats will most likely have to shed out. It is hard to determine the condition of her skin underneath. She is definitely very tender in some areas.

Little Snickers 2 Weeks Old.
Cocoa came to us as Sugar, she was given a new name to go along with her new life. She arrived with a 2 week old colt named Snickers. Both were in sad condition, Cocoa was severly covered with dried on manure and her feet were rotted and over grown. Cocoa and Snickers are at the barn settling in. Cocoa has had some of her overgrown foot taken off but will not properly be trimmed or examined until she can be tranquilized and laid down by a vet as she is in too much pain to stand on one foot long enough for the farrier to trim. It has been determined by a vet that Snickers is not getting enough food from his mom to do much more than survive. After much struggle and determination on the part of so many people, we've managed to get him to start eating oatmeal consistency foal-lac pellets. He wanted nothing to do with a bottle but seems to like gumming the mash pretty well. Once he figured out it was food (and that kicking the bucket holder was part of the fun) he began to eat in earnest. Cocoa is moving around slightly more than yesterday but we will not know the extent of her foot damage until a thorough ! trim and exam is done, most likely Fri. She has been very sweet and tolerant of us so far, especially considering she's been locked in a stall for a year with nearly no human interaction. There is most likely no hope for her hair and the mats will most likely have to shed out. It is hard to determine the condition of the skin underneath, she is defiantly very tender in some areas. Thanks to all who have donated time, money, and supplies.
